Bhive describes itself as a multi-cultural hair, tanning and red light therapy salon. Hair care covers dreadlock maintenance, cutting, coloring, styling and treatments. The team includes four stylists and three locticians trained by owner Briana McGowan in her dreadlock method.

Each stylist sets their own availability, pricing and booking process. Stylists may ask a few questions when booking to match clients with the right person. Walk-ins are accepted when a stylist has time, though booking ahead is recommended.

Red light therapy and tanning sessions are also offered. The salon lists red light therapy for pain relief, scalp health and general wellness, and for skin concerns such as stretch marks, wrinkles, scars and acne. It also lists uses for chronic pain, sports recovery, inflammation, wound healing and symptoms of androgenic alopecia. Wig fittings and customizations take 45 minutes to an hour and require an appointment. The $40 fitting fee is waived with a wig purchase, and specialty wig orders require a 50% deposit.

The retail area carries hair products, crystals, gifts, dreadlock accessories and specialty items. The salon describes these products as ethically sourced, cruelty-free and small-batch, from minority or women-owned brands. They can be bought in person or through the online store on Instagram.

The salon also points to Nature's Crown, an online loctician school offering certification in dreadlock methods. Certification can be completed over four consecutive days, with three mentorship days for practice. The total cost is $2,198, paid as two workshops of $1,099 each, with a 50% deposit to sign up. Workshops can travel to other locations with a minimum of three students. Licensing varies by state, and a business license costing under $100 per year is advised.

Payment is accepted in cash and by major credit and debit cards. Buy Now, Pay Later is available through the booking platform for bookings from $50 to $4,000.

Stylists run independently with their own calendars and prices, and the team matches clients to a stylist through a short set of questions.
