Bella Nail Lounge and Beauty Bar was founded in 2014, out of a plan first considered in late 2014, by owners who have been based in Newark since 2002. The name Bella means beauty in many languages. The business states that it is Black owned. The salon sits below Branford Place, off Treat Place, and its interior was designed with Bailey Li Interiors. It is open Sunday, Monday and Wednesday from 11am to 7pm, and Thursday through Saturday from 11am to 9pm.

About

The space is set up as a relaxed lounge with the feel of a neighborhood bar, and guests are offered complimentary coffee, tea, juice, water or wine. The specialty drinks are the Bellatini, Peachtini, Cocoloso and Lulutini. Pedicures use porcelain bowls rather than whirlpool chairs with pipes and jets, and the salon says those chairs need at least 20 minutes of cleaning between uses. Metal tools go through an autoclave, a medical-grade sterilization chamber, after cleaning, and each client is given a freshly opened sealed pouch of implements. Disposable pedicure liners and abrasives are single use, and implements are sanitized and disinfected with OPI Spa Complete and Barbicide. The salon describes its sterilization as hospital grade.

The menu is organized as appetizers for manicures, tapas for pedicures, entrees for acrylic and UV gel work, and a la carte add-ons such as nail art, rhinestones, Swarovski crystals, chrome and cat eye designs, repairs and paraffin treatments. Prices are listed as starting points and may change with the condition of the nails, such as lifting, growth, cracking or repairs. Complimentary nail fixes are also offered on some acrylic and powder work. The salon says its services are provided by licensed associates and that its professionals are licensed.

Appointments are required, and a 30 percent deposit applies to all appointments and services, including Groupon and other prepaid services. The deposit is applied at checkout and gift cards cannot be used for it. Cancellations and changes need 24 hours' notice. Walk-ins are also accepted when capacity allows, typically with about a 45-minute wait. Clients running late are asked to phone ahead. Children are welcome with an appointment and must be closely supervised. Pets are not allowed in the lounge, and phones should be on vibrate with calls kept brief. A monthly membership, bought before the month starts with appointments booked at purchase, gives 20 percent off services and includes prepaid appointments for facials, body and eyebrow waxing, express pedicures, the pedicure of the month, powder and gel manicures and acrylic fills. E-gift cards save $5 for every $50 spent.
