About

Bee Kind Studio is co-owned by Reavey McClellan and Melissa (Frenchie) French and operates as a small collective of artists. The studio describes itself as boutique-style, gender neutral and LGBTQ+ inclusive, and it aims for each client to feel welcomed, accepted and like their most authentic self.

The studio is built on the idea that small, deliberate steps can make the community kinder and more inclusive. All of its products are vegan, cruelty-free, free of animal-derived ingredients and never tested on animals, though the studio notes it is not organic or chemical-free, since its products contain natural and synthetic fragrances. Color services use Oligo Pro, and the lines carried include Oligo, IGK, Emera and K18. Sink shower heads are Eco-Heads models that the studio says cut water and energy use by up to 65 percent, paper goods are made from recycled paper, bamboo or sugar cane, and salon beauty waste is recycled and repurposed through a partnership with Green Circle Salons. The studio describes itself as eco-friendly.

Prices are starting prices and can rise with hair length, density, appointment time and artist level. Balayage and Blow Dry starts at $265 and Balayage and Haircut starts at $290. Specialized lightening, vivids and color corrections are priced by the hour, with rates starting at $90 with Daliah, $100 with Alex, $120 with Frenchie and $165 with Reavey. Every visit includes a $2 Environmental Stewardship Fee. Virtual pre-appointment consultations are free, while stand-alone in-person consultations of up to 15 minutes cost $20 to $40 depending on artist level. New clients, and clients whose color was last done elsewhere, complete a pre-appointment consultation through the new client request form. Requests receive a reply within 72 business hours. Existing clients can book online, and the studio asks clients to call before booking a drastic change. Silent appointments can be requested at booking; the artist still consults and checks in during the service.

Booking requires a credit card. Cancellations and rescheduling need at least 48 hours notice by phone, and social media cancellations are not accepted. Cancellations or rescheduling with less notice are charged 50 percent of the booked value, while no-shows and same-day cancellations are charged in full. Arrivals more than 10 minutes late may be rescheduled or shortened. Services scheduled over 3 hours require a non-refundable deposit. Refunds are not offered, but clients can request adjustments within one week of the first appointment. Retail products can be exchanged or returned within 30 days, unless they are empty or nearly empty, and gift cards are non-refundable. Tips are cash only. Children under 13 are not served, clients under 18 need a guardian present for the full consultation, and clients must arrive alone. Service animals are welcome with documentation. Free parking is available on Main Street or in the municipal lot behind the studio off Abe Vorhees Drive; the adjoining PNC Bank lot is not for studio clients. The studio can be reached at (732) 592-9533, and it is hiring.

Built on the belief that small, deliberate steps can make the community kinder and more inclusive, with conscious choices about products and everyday habits guiding the work.

A small, cozy studio where the team aims to make each client feel at ease.
