Beauty by Mandy Z is a solo studio run by Mandy Z inside Blended Beauty Salon on Encinitas Boulevard. Mandy came to hair and beauty after a stretch in the corporate world, and the studio is kept quiet by design, with Mandy as the only person attending each client. Its home page describes the salon as serving working professionals and busy moms.

Booking runs through an online Square calendar, and clients can also reach the studio by text, phone or email; non-booking questions get a personal reply, usually within one business day. A 10% deposit holds the appointment and is applied to the final total, with the balance settled at the studio after the visit. Cancelling or rescheduling at least 24 hours ahead returns the deposit. Color services run two to five hours, so clients are asked to bring reference photos, arrive with dry hair that hasn't been freshly washed, and allow extra time before and after. A patch test can be arranged on request if asked at least 48 hours ahead, and the last color service starts at 4:30pm.

Color is custom-blended to each client's skin tone and uses long-lasting products. If a reference can't be honestly recreated on a client's hair, the stylist says so and suggests an alternative. Color correction within 14 days of a visit is free, and larger corrections are handled gradually over several appointments. Children are generally not accommodated at long color services, and childcare is recommended for appointments over two hours. Gift cards can be bought in any amount, are sent by email and never expire.
