The school was founded by Roberta Hector, who opened her first beauty shop in Baytown in 1980 in a converted garage at her home and later opened a salon on Schilling Street in 1984. Its cosmetology school began in the late 1990s as R&E Cosmetology School and was later renamed Baytown Beauty & Barber College. It has trained beauty professionals in Baytown for over 20 years and has graduated students from communities including Beaumont, Liberty and LaPorte.
The school's mission centers on education that builds technical skill, business knowledge, professionalism, creativity, ethics and community service.
Students can train in cosmetology, barbering, esthetics and manicuring. Theory and textbook hours can be completed online through the Milady CIMA platform, and students then practice hands-on techniques on the clinic floor. Programs are offered at several lengths: a 1200-hour cosmetology, esthetician and manicure program at $7,650; a 750-hour esthetician program at $4,800; a 600-hour manicure program at $4,260; a 1000-hour operator's license program in cosmetology or barber at $8,000; and a 300-hour crossover program from barber to cosmetology at $2,130. The school says it can help students become licensed beauty professionals in as little as five months.
The public clinic offers discounted hair services, including bangs and edge up at $7, deep conditioning, shampoo, wet sets and spiral sets at $10, and haircuts at $15, or $10 for seniors. Clinic services are performed by students and professionals.
Tuition can be paid through flexible monthly plans or in-house payment options, which are considered case by case for cosmetology and barber courses. Tuition assistance is available, including TWC tuition assistance. Admissions take three steps: contact an admissions advisor, complete an enrollment application, then set up orientation after acceptance. State-board preparation kits start at $190, and a state-board refresher course costs $535. The school is closed on Mondays and open Tuesday to Friday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM and Saturday from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
Students learn theory online and then build hands-on skills in a supervised clinic setting.
