Avena Aesthetics

Avena Aesthetics was founded by Dr. Ashika Deskins, a California-licensed naturopathic doctor, and focuses on microneedling and PRP treatments in the East Bay. The practice works on the face, neck, chest and scars.

Microneedling, also called collagen induction therapy, uses fine needles to create tiny micro-injuries in the skin. The practice uses the SkinPen device, which it states is FDA-approved, and applies a numbing cream beforehand. Sessions usually take 30 to 60 minutes depending on the area. Three to six treatments spaced four to six weeks apart are generally recommended. Redness, swelling and mild discomfort are the usual side effects and tend to settle within a few days.

PRP is platelet-rich plasma made from the client's own blood. Paired with microneedling, it is applied to support collagen and elastin production. For hair restoration, PRP is injected into the scalp. The practice states PRP is FDA-approved. Multiple sessions may be recommended depending on goals and treatment area, and there is typically no downtime beyond mild redness and swelling at injection sites.

Microneedling is not recommended for people with active skin infections, cancer, open wounds, severe eczema or psoriasis in the treatment area, or a bleeding disorder. Pregnant or nursing clients should consult the provider first. Clients are asked to avoid sun exposure and stop retinoids or exfoliants beforehand. The practice periodically offers promotions and package deals, and online booking is available.

Treatment is individualized and holistic, aimed at the root causes of skin concerns rather than surface symptoms alone.
