A visit means being served by a student. Every service is performed by a supervised student working under the close supervision of a licensed instructor, and guests take part in hands-on instruction as students practice current techniques. The institutes say their services are of a high standard and priced affordably, compared with typical salons. Final pricing for hair work is set at a consultation and depends on hair length, condition and the number of colors used. Corrective color is also priced after consultation. Services include finish.
The menu is grouped by service type: hair cuts, styles and ironwork finishing; hair color such as retouches, freehand color, foils and bleach and tone; hair texture work including relaxers and permanent waves; and hair health add-ons. Facial and body services, advanced esthetics, waxing, makeup, brow and lash services, and massage are offered at selected campuses. Not all services are available at every location, and the Minneapolis campus is the only one listed for massage. The Aveda brand products used in services include customized body care in the Aroma Body Polish treatment.
Booking is available online. Age rules vary: services are offered from age 6 with an adult who is not receiving a service for guests under 12, hair color and relaxers from age 13, permanent waves and spa services from age 16, and bikini waxing for women 18 and older. At the New York campus, hair color requires a patch test at least 24 hours before the appointment, and the patch test needs no appointment. Guests are asked to arrive 15 minutes before a spa appointment and give 24 hours' notice for changes or cancellations. Learners may be reassigned for educational, scheduling or instructional reasons, though requests for a specific learner are accommodated where possible. Guests should contact their local campus with questions about policies, age rules or contraindications before booking.
Services are performed by supervised students working under the close supervision of licensed instructors, so guests take part in hands-on learning.
