Ash + Gold describes itself as a salon studio collective, with stylists working from its Denver location on Broadway and its Carbondale location on Main Street. Booking is online only, and the salon communicates by email, with no phone line at either location. Appointments open two months at a time, and clients can cancel or reschedule through the confirmation email they receive.

Cancellations or changes made within 48 hours of an appointment carry a 50% charge, and changes within 24 hours carry a 100% charge. Children are not permitted in the salon, so clients are asked to come alone. Clients are asked not to arrive early unless their stylist requests it. At the Denver location the front door stays locked, so clients wait in their car until the stylist sends a text.

Color clients should arrive with freshly washed, dry hair, or wash the day before if they plan to air dry. Haircut clients have their hair washed at the salon unless they request a dry cut, in which case they arrive with hair already washed and dried. For long hair or balayage, trims or touch-ups are recommended every 8 to 12 weeks, and every 6 to 8 weeks for shorter cuts.

The studio describes its haircare as curated for all hair types and carries professional products meant to protect color. Haircuts such as long layers and shags are tailored to face shape, texture and length.
