About

Ann Marie Laurendeau founded the business in 1993 and leads its teaching and its professional work. Anemone Makeup, LLC grew out of a professional makeup and hair practice and now has three main strands: classes, media and event work, and weddings.

Classes run in person in Woburn and virtually. Individual sessions are one-on-one and hands-on, and in-person classes last 90 minutes. Instruction is tutorial-style, with demonstrations using products from established cosmetic brands and time for questions as it allows. A separate course for mature women aged 50 and over, described as new, covers makeup and skincare for that age group. Students who want to work in the field can take a four-hour aspiring makeup artist class and, after completing Makeup Fundamentals and Advanced Makeup, receive a certificate of attendance signed by Ann Marie Laurendeau. Qualified students may also have the chance to assist or shadow a senior artist on shoots, commercials, events or weddings. Classes do not replace a state esthetician or cosmetology license. Community programs take the teaching to libraries, adult education centers, women's groups, senior living facilities and other organizations around Greater Boston. Some are free and open to the public, and the business says these programs are often self-funded.

Working on site, the salon supplies hair and makeup for television and video productions, photo shoots, live events, fashion shows and media events. Media bookings are charged by the half day or full day within Greater Boston. Wedding services reach brides and bridal parties in Boston, across New England and farther afield. The portfolio shows headshots, beauty work, editorial images and wedding before-and-after photos. According to the salon, its roster spans media companies, brand names, well-known personalities, recording artists, athletes, company executives and corporate and retail businesses, and it cites projects for Disney, Live Nation, Under Armour and Dior.

The business says it aims to use organic, clean and conscious beauty products where possible, avoiding parabens, phthalates and sulfates. Fully vegan and organic products cannot always be used. Sanitation follows professional makeup artist practice, with disposable tools, sanitized brushes and alcohol wipedowns of work areas.

Teaching is hands-on and tutorial-style, with one-on-one attention in person and online. Product choices lean toward clean and conscious brands where possible.

The business describes its classes as warm, interactive and fun.
