Amway Grand Plaza

The hotel traces its roots to the Pantlind Hotel, whose cornerstone was laid in 1913. The building reopened in 1916 after extensive renovations, with an English Adams style design by Warren and Wetmore. The Amway Corporation acquired and restored the historic property in 1979, and the Amway Grand Plaza opened in 1981, with the Glass Tower added in 1983. The hotel says its 1981 reopening helped revive downtown Grand Rapids.

Celeste Salon & Spa is on the fourth floor of the Tower wing. It offers massage, skin and body treatments, manicures, pedicures, makeup and hair services, with Swedish massage, bridal hair and makeup, men's services and group bookings. The space includes a massage room with a view and a relaxation lounge. Customized in-spa or in-room packages are available for couples, brides and bridesmaids, and wedding parties, with off-site services on request. Opening days are Tuesday, and Thursday through Saturday, so booking ahead is useful. Clients who book a salon appointment get three hours of complimentary parking in the hotel ramp or valet service. Celeste also sells Éminence Organic Skin Care products, and a Wellness membership is offered by phone.

Weddings are a major part of the hotel. Ceremonies can be held in a ballroom, including when a church or outdoor site is unavailable. Receptions suit groups from about 40 to 500 guests, and smaller events such as teas for 20 or cocktail receptions for up to 200 are also hosted. Other wedding events include rehearsal dinners, bridal showers with brunch or afternoon tea, engagement celebrations and themed brunches, including a French bistro-style breakfast on the patio over the Grand River. Pastry staff design wedding cakes from the couple's own ideas and reference photos.

Couples hosting a ballroom wedding receive a complimentary standard guest room or a suite upgrade at the group rate for the wedding night.

The hotel describes its wedding planning as customizable from the ballroom to the dinner menu, with specialists guiding each step.

A historic downtown hotel with restored ballrooms, a gold-leaf domed room and a spa space the hotel describes as calm and restful.
