AMP Electrolysis opened on August 8, 1995, and marked 20 years of permanent hair removal in 2015. The office at 287-B East Main Street in Oceanport is run by its owner, Ann Marie Preston, who also works as the electrologist.
Electrolysis is offered for facial and body hair, including brows, chin, upper and lower lip, jaw line, sides of the face, breast and underarms, abdomen, bikini line, legs and back. Sessions run from about 15 minutes to more than an hour depending on the area treated. Pricing is set by session length: $55 for 15 minutes, $70 for 30 minutes, $80 for 45 minutes and $90 for 60 minutes, with the 15-minute session as the minimum charge. Because hair grows in cycles, most clients need more than one treatment, and treatments can sting briefly, with tolerance varying from person to person.
A visit starts with a complimentary consultation, and the treatment plan is based on it. Before an appointment, the business advises avoiding plucking, waxing, threading or tweezing, while shaving between treatments is fine. Treatments and consultations are by appointment only, with no walk-ins. Cancellations need 24 hours' notice. Late arrivals are charged from the originally scheduled time, and the appointment may not be extended. Payment is due at the time of treatment and can be made by cash, check or credit card. Clients under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
The office is closed on Mondays and Fridays. It is open Tuesday through Thursday from 8:00 to 1:00 and 3:00 to 8:00, and Saturday from 7:00 to 1:00. The practice is a member of the Electrologists Association of New Jersey, an affiliate of the American Electrology Association. Client reviews are linked from Facebook, Google, SuperPages, YellowPages and Yelp.
The business states that electrolysis is the only hair removal method the FDA recognizes as permanent, and it describes its results as suited to all skin and hair types.
Treatment plans follow a consultation, and the electrologist selects the modality for each client from the galvanic, thermolysis or blend options.
