About

Amber Waves Electrolysis is a solo practice in a clinical professional office building on West 135th Street in Overland Park. Clients are seen in a private suite with a waiting room and a private treatment room, and Amber Stevens handles each appointment herself. Current clients book through a Vagaro account, and the salon notes that creating an account or submitting pre-appointment forms does not guarantee a time slot because availability is limited.

Electrolysis works by inserting a fine probe into each hair follicle and applying a small electrical current to destroy the cells that grow hair. Because hair grows in stages, most clients need several sessions spread over a few months, and timelines depend on hair type, treatment area and hormones. The salon says electrolysis is the only method the FDA recognizes as permanent hair removal and says it works across hair colors and skin tones, including blonde, gray, white and red hair. For PCOS-related hormonal hair growth, the PCOS Hair Management plan can permanently remove unwanted hair, though it does not treat the underlying condition.

A visit begins with a free 30-minute consultation to talk through goals, look over the areas to be treated and set up a customized plan. Sessions range from 15 minutes to an hour and can be adjusted in length. Listed rates are $60 for 15 minutes, $80 for 30 minutes, $90 for 45 minutes and $110 for 60 minutes, and the salon notes that final pricing depends on the treatment area and the plan. Facial sessions run 15 to 60 minutes, and body sessions run 30 to 90 minutes.

Before a first session, clients are asked to drink plenty of water for two to three days, avoid caffeine and dehydrating drinks the night before and the morning of, arrive with clean skin free of thick foundation or deodorant, and skip tweezing or waxing for at least two weeks. Hair needs to be long enough to grasp, and lighter hairs may need a little more growth. Afterward the area is cleansed and a cooling gel is applied. Mild redness, swelling or warmth is described as normal and usually fades quickly, and clients who take blood thinners or certain supplements may bruise more easily, especially around the brows. Aftercare guidance covers antiseptic care, avoiding sun for the first 48 hours, then daily broad-spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen, avoiding heavy sweating, and holding off on shaving, dermaplaning and strong actives on the treated skin until it heals.

Treatment is customized to each client, with extra care offered for sensitive skin and a plan built around hair growth cycles. The practice is education-first, walking clients through what to expect before work begins.
