Alma & Bee
Nail salon in Half Moon Bay, CA
Alma & Bee was founded by Debbie Canadas, who grew up in Half Moon Bay. She wanted to offer high-quality mani-pedis in her hometown, after regularly travelling to San Francisco for them. The shop occupies a building purchased in the 1920s as the former home of her husband's great aunt. It was restored with its vintage features kept. The name honors her late mother-in-law, Daretha, and the word Bee is her childhood nickname.

The salon describes its services as high quality and non-toxic. All beauty products sold in the boutique and used in treatments are natural, environmentally friendly and cruelty-free. Polishes are stated to be free of formaldehyde, toluene, dibutyl phthalate, camphor, xylene, parabens and other listed ingredients. Foot and hand baths use essential oils and dried or fresh herbs from the on-site herb garden. A portion of profits supports environmental and animal rescue causes.
A visit starts with a choice of three packages, Busy Bee, Local Bee and The Queen Bee, each available as a manicure or a pedicure. Guests can enjoy a glass of bubbly or a cup of organic tea during their appointment. Guests are asked not to talk on cell phones during visits, and pets are not allowed in treatment areas for sanitation reasons. Implements and pedicure bowls are sanitized according to CA State Board Regulations.
The boutique sells local and artisan-crafted items, including jewelry and handbags. The shop also hosts private parties and events, including wellness retreats, birthday parties and bridal parties.
Treatments are built around natural, non-toxic products, with essential oils and garden herbs used in the foot and hand baths.
The space is described as very clean and visually pleasing, in a restored vintage building.
