Piyush Ragha-Rook founded Alchemist Society in May 2020. The salon expanded into a new salon space in 2024 and is located at 215 S. Lamar Blvd, Unit A, in Austin.

The salon's mission is to celebrate all people and let their inner beauty show through teamwork, education and innovation. Education is built into the service itself, with consultations and hands-on demonstrations. An Emerging Talent program supports newer artists as they work toward expert level in their craft.

Sustainability is a central focus, with the aim of minimizing environmental impact while still providing hair care. The salon uses Davines, a sustainable hair and skin care brand based in Parma, Italy, and the Canada-based company Green Circle Salons recycles most of its waste. The salon also works with local Austin organizations on their needs through community service and education.

Color consultations are complimentary, and corrective color requires a consultation before booking. Extension first applications, move ups and custom color are priced after a consultation. The salon is open Tuesday and Wednesday from 10am to 6pm, Thursday from 10am to 8pm, Friday from 10am to 6pm and Saturday from 10am to 5pm, and is closed Sunday and Monday.

The salon works from sustainable beauty principles, pairing environmentally minded product and waste practices with hair services. Its services are designed to include education through consultations and hands-on demonstrations.

The salon describes itself as a sanctuary where eco-conscious practices meet current style.
