African Braiding Center was founded in the early 2000s on Georgia Avenue in Washington, DC, and now has a second location on Randolph Street NW. Both locations are walk-in braiding salons.

Visits are walk-in only. The salon opens at 7:00 AM, with braiders starting between 7:00 and 8:00 AM. The last client is accepted between 5:00 and 5:30 PM, and the salon closes at 6:30 PM. Clients are asked to call (202) 723-7336 when they arrive, and anyone needing a later appointment time should call at least two hours ahead to check availability. Payment is cash only and is taken during the service, before it is finished. No extra guests are allowed, and clients are asked to check their hair before leaving because refunds are not given.

The menu is organized by style family. Knotless braids come in bra strap, waist and butt lengths, with Classic, Juicy, Versatile, Large, Jumbo and Fulani versions. Box braids, Senegalese twists, Marley and passion twists, and several cornrow and feed-in styles are also offered, along with ponytails, sew-ins and Invisible Locs. Men can book King Braids, including stitch braids, regular cornrows, fade plaits and full head plaits.

The salon names several signature styles: Juicy Freestyle, Juicy Knotless, Juicy Mohawk, Love Knotless, Versatile Knots, Tribal Braids and 2 Layer Braids. Juicy Freestyle Cornrows can be done with curly hair sold separately, with a human hair blend, or with 100% human hair. Many styles are priced with hair included or noted as hair not included, so clients should check the listing before booking.

Most of the braiding hair used is supplied by the salon, including 100% human hair for several styles and textured hair for locs.
