AcneFix was founded in 2018 by Shal, who began her career as a plastic and reconstructive surgeon at a large plastic surgery center in Malaysia and practiced there until 2014. She moved to Houston in 2015. Her training includes a medical degree and a master's in plastic and reconstructive surgery from Malaysia. She is also a licensed esthetician and holds Texas certifications in laser work and in microneedling and PRP. The business says acne is the only condition it treats and works with teens and adults, including hormonal and post-pregnancy acne. No dermatologist referral is needed, and the program is non-prescription.

A typical plan includes 6 to 8 services over three to four months, and the salon says most clients have acne under control by then, depending on acne type and severity. Treatment for acne scars and hyperpigmentation is planned at consultation once active acne is under control; treatments aimed only at scars are not currently offered. Between visits, clients follow a home routine using AcneFix formulations and can text their Acne Specialist with questions. Online options include a 90-minute live video consultation for $50, joined through a secure link with no app download, and a 30-minute follow-up video check-in for $25 for existing online clients. Online visits require an intake form and skin photos sent beforehand, and the salon suggests them for people with five or more breakouts a month. According to the salon, a typical online routine lasts 6 to 8 weeks and starts at around $250 or more in products.
