Achelous Salon

Achelous Salon is a hair salon at 268 Newbury Street in Boston. Appointments are required, as the salon is booked by appointment on every day of the week. The owner, Rebecca Anastasia Kalaitzidis, founded the business and has run it since 1995.

Services are priced individually, with several offered as add-ons to a main appointment. Most services include a wash, the specific treatment and a blow dry unless noted otherwise. Chemical services are priced according to timing and the amount of product needed, and extra charges may apply when more product is required than standard. Texture services are quoted after a consultation, because the price depends on how much product is used and how long the work takes.

The salon offers color work that ranges from a single-process change in tone or grey coverage to highlighting and glazing to refresh color between highlight appointments. Texture services use Keratin Complex products, which can be applied to specific areas or across the whole head to reduce frizz and cut down on styling time. The aromatherapy scalp and hair treatment is adapted to whether the scalp is oily or dry and includes a massage, a scalp mask and treatment of the lengths as needed.

Beyond the salon floor, the Apothecary sells crystals, home goods, personal care items and jewelry, some made in-house and some by other American artists. The salon also sells its own in-house products, which it describes as certified clean and eco-friendly, along with locally made skincare that it describes as award-winning. Essential oils are blended in-house for treatments and are also available to buy.

The salon says it was awarded Best Salon Boston Top 3 in 2025 by Business Rate. Waste from services is recycled through Green Circle Salons. Company-affiliated discounts require ID and/or a voucher number. Cancellations are accepted up to 24 hours before an appointment; later cancellations are charged 50 percent of the scheduled cost.
