100 Dollar Braids

The salon was founded and is owned by Ukachi Njoku. It is built on the idea that every client should receive a styling solution fitted to them, at a price that stays accessible, along with a good overall visit. The salon says it values honest relationships with its clients, and it credits training and professionalism as what sets it apart from other African braiding and weave salons in the area. The salon describes itself as the home of the original $50 sew-in weave in Dallas and as the city's premier African braiding, weave and sew-in salon; these are its own claims.

The menu covers six braiding styles: corn rows, crochet braids, box braids, kinky twists, Senegalese twists and micro braids. Locs, sew-in weaves and a shea butter treatment round out the list. Prices are listed as starting amounts, so the final cost depends on the style chosen. Clients are asked to arrive with their hair already washed and blow-dried. Staff hold a training and inspiration day once a month.

The waiting area is comfortable, and there is a mini bar with drinks and snacks. The shop sells 100% human hair from Indian, Cambodian, Malaysian, Peruvian and Brazilian sources, in lengths from 12 to 32 inches and starting at $65. Other items on sale include home-made shea butter, satin hair bonnets, Ankara travel pillows and aprons, a bob wig, a braided wig and loc extensions.
