Timothy Rankin

Timothy Rankin is the surgeon at NorCal Plastic Surgery in Tiburon. A board-certified plastic surgeon with an MD, he concentrates on facial rejuvenation, facelifts, rhinoplasty and mommy makeovers, and also performs breast and body surgery. He began with a biology degree from Chapman University, then earned an MD from Ross University School of Medicine, which he completed summa cum laude. Much of his clinical training was in Chicago's Cook County hospital system. He then completed a full general surgery residency at the University of Arizona, earning a master's degree in surgical research and serving as chief resident at Banner University Medical Center. His plastic surgery program at Vanderbilt University was under Dr. R. Bruce Shack and included breast surgery, body contouring and facial aesthetic surgery under G. Patrick Maxwell, Timothy J. Marten, Dino Elyassnia and Ronald P. Gruber. He also completed a research fellowship with Dr. David G. Armstrong.

Before surgical training he worked as an EMT on a critical care ambulance. He has taught medical students at Northwestern University, where he developed methods for teaching clinical examination skills. His published work includes peer-reviewed papers and book chapters on surgical safety, technology in surgery and 3D printing for surgical use, and he is a peer reviewer for three journals: the Journal of Palliative Medicine, the British Journal of Radiology and the Aesthetic Surgery Journal. He has worked with Vanderbilt University's cleft team and published on congenital anomalies. Awards listed on the site include the Charles L. Witte Award for surgical excellence, the highest in-service examination award in plastic surgery training, and the Spirit of Chapman Award from Chapman University.
