About

Susan Binder is a board-certified dermatologist who runs Binder Dermatology in New York City, where her focus is cosmetic dermatology. She has practiced it for more than two decades. The practice also handles medical dermatology, including treatment of acne, psoriasis, rashes and eczema. She is known for diagnosing and treating hair loss, and she screens for and treats skin cancer, using dermoscopy to examine lesions and moles.

She completed her undergraduate degree at NYU and then her medical degree there, at NYU School of Medicine, graduating with honors in dermatology. Her post-graduate training includes an internship at Yale University, residency work at Yale-New Haven Hospital, and a dermatology residency at SUNY Downstate. She spent 18 years at a large dermatology practice before opening her own about five years ago. She teaches as faculty at Mount Sinai Hospital and at Columbia University's New York Presbyterian Hospital affiliation, and has trained numerous residents in medical and cosmetic dermatology. For more than ten years she has also written dermatology and skin care advice for InStyle magazine.

She belongs to the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society of Dermatologic Surgeons and the International Peeling Society. She has appeared on the Castle Connolly Top Doctors list and New York Magazine's Top Doctors list since 2017, and in 2025 she was named one of the Exceptional Women in Medicine.

Her work centers on dermal fillers, cosmetic lasers, microneedling for scars and uneven skin tone, and superficial and medium-depth chemical peels. She performs each treatment herself and keeps her patient load small so she has time with every patient. At a consultation she examines the area to be treated and recommends a particular filler or a combination of fillers. Botox plans start with an assessment of the skin and the patient's goals, and she injects into targeted muscles using micro needles. Peel strength and formula are adjusted to each patient's skin type, and peels are often paired with cosmetic laser sessions. For hair loss, she uses PRP for androgenetic alopecia and for hair loss linked to scarring. For early-stage thinning she suggests PRP injections as the main treatment, and she may also discuss topical options such as minoxidil.
