Stephanie Otoya is the owner, founder and hairstylist of Velvet Magnetic Hair Co. She completed her training at Paul Mitchell The School in St. Louis in August 2014 and earned a limited place in Beacon 2014, a national student cosmetology contest in Las Vegas held by the Professional Beauty Association. She has been doing hair for 10 years. Before opening her own space, she co-owned Mitch Grooming, a men's hair salon in the Grove neighborhood, starting in June 2022. After about two years there, she opened Velvet Magnetic Hair Co. and founded the business in July 2024. She specializes in working with all Asian hair types, curly hair, children's hair, masculine short cuts and skin fades, androgynous and gender-affirming cuts, and textured cuts such as shags, mullets, layers and pixies, as well as blunt cuts. Her services include clipper cuts, gender-affirming and androgynous haircuts, beard and mustache work, razor cuts, layered cuts, anime-inspired cuts, conservative cuts and Curl Cult perms. Her advanced education includes classes and workshops with Kelly Cardenas, Fernie Andong, Justin Thomas, Presley Poe, John Mosley and Wesley Palmer.
