Sarmela Sunder, MD

Sarmela Sunder, MD, owns Sunder Plastic Surgery, a facial plastic surgery practice in Beverly Hills, where she practices as a double board-certified facial plastic surgeon. She has more than 13 years of work focused on the face and neck, and her medical training started in 2004. From 2004 to 2009 she worked in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery at Stanford Hospital and Clinics. She was a plastic surgeon at Persky Sunder Plastic Surgery in Los Angeles from 2011 to 2018, and has been a plastic surgeon at Cassileth Plastic Surgery in Beverly Hills since 2018.

She earned a B.A. in Anthropology and Public Health from Johns Hopkins University in 2000, graduating with Phi Beta Kappa honors, and received her M.D. from Cornell University Weill Medical College in 2004. A general surgery internship at Stanford covered 2004 and 2005, followed by an otolaryngology residency there from 2005 to 2009, where she was Chief Resident and trained under Dr. Richard Goode, a pioneer in rhinoplasty. In 2009 and 2010 she completed a facial plastic and reconstructive surgery fellowship with Vito Quatela, MD, at the University of Rochester. She is licensed to practice medicine in California and New York. She received a 2008 Resident Research Award from Stanford.

Her surgical practice centers on facelifts, mid-facelifts, neck lifts, eyelid lifts, mid-face lifts and rhinoplasty, alongside facial optimization procedures such as submental liposuction and chin augmentation. Non-surgical options include Morpheus8 laser treatments, Sofwave, injectables, and PRP-based topical rejuvenation. She offers every wrinkle relaxer the practice carries in Beverly Hills: BOTOX, Dysport, Xeomin, Jeuveau and Daxxify. She approaches each face as an individual design problem, blending artistic judgment with surgical technique. She holds that in-office treatments and topical creams cannot match the results of a surgical facelift. For patients with autoimmune conditions, she takes a gentler approach, since some of them react to hyaluronic acid filler.

She serves as Vice President of the California Society of Facial Plastic Surgery and is affiliated with the Physicians Formula Physician Coalition advisory board. A press article lists her as an advisor to Allergan, the maker of Juvederm. She trains doctors and nurses in injection techniques and speaks at conferences internationally. She has published in scientific journals and contributed to book chapters, including a guide for surgeons preparing for facial plastic surgery board certification. She has performed cleft lip and cleft palate repairs and microtia ear reconstructions in India, Ecuador and the Philippines, and she treats patients from many countries. Press coverage has discussed her work on eyelid surgery and facial rejuvenation, and she was a featured panelist at The Hollywood Reporter's A-List Aesthetics event in Beverly Hills. She is one of a small number of women in Beverly Hills holding double board certification in facial plastic surgery. She was named to the Los Angeles Magazine Top Doctors Rising Star list every year from 2016 to 2023, and to The Hollywood Reporter's Top Cosmetic Doctors in L.A. and N.Y.C. list.
