About
Sanjay K. Sharma, M.D., F.A.C.S., is a board-certified plastic surgeon who opened Plastic Surgery Austin in 2003 and has worked in Austin for over two decades. He is medical director of milk + honey, a spa with non-surgical offerings. In hospital and academic settings he has served as chief of plastic surgery at Dell Seton Medical Center at The University of Texas, serves as clinical lead for plastic surgery with Ascension Medical Group, and directs hand surgery services at Dell Seton Medical Center. He also holds a clinical assistant professor appointment in the Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care at Dell Medical School. His practice covers plastic surgery and hand and microsurgery, with body contouring among his focus areas. He is experienced with tumescent, power-assisted and ultrasound-assisted (VASER) liposuction, and he helps patients pick a method based on the areas being treated, the volume of fat to be removed and the outcome they want. Consultations walk patients through each stage of the procedure. He has considerable facelift experience and builds an individual surgical plan for each facelift patient after assessing health status and expectations. For breast augmentation and implant revision, including implant removal and replacement, he uses round implants only and favors smooth-walled implants for patients in Austin. On the hand side, he treats wrist discomfort, arthritic changes in the small joints and wrist, and performs joint replacement and wrist arthroscopy. Endoscopic carpal tunnel release is a procedure he does routinely. He also handles distal radius fractures and trauma reconstruction. His training includes a chemistry bachelor's degree from Washington University in St. Louis, medical school at Baylor College of Medicine, combined general and plastic surgery training at Baylor, and a one-year orthopedic hand surgery fellowship at the University of Washington with microvascular training. He holds a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Hand Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He has been listed as an Austin Monthly Top Doctor from 2016 to the present, including for hand surgery, and as a Texas Monthly Super Doctor from 2016 to the present. He is also included in Castle Connolly Top Doctors. He belongs to several surgical societies, has published in plastic and hand surgery, lectures on breast reconstruction, cosmetic surgery, hand surgery and trauma reconstruction, and treats patients across Central Texas.
