About

Philip S. Schoenfeld, M.D., F.A.C.S., founded Renu by Dr. Schoenfeld in Chevy Chase, Maryland, and serves as its medical director. As a surgeon and educator, he has worked in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery in Washington, DC and Maryland since 1998, and the practice cites more than two decades of focused work in the DC region. He holds a medical degree from New York Medical College and trained in residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. He served ten years in the U.S. Army, five of them with the 82nd Airborne Division, and was chief of the Department of Otolaryngology and Facial Plastic Surgery at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

He is double board certified in otolaryngology, head and neck surgery, and facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, and is also board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He sits on the written board review committee and serves as an oral board examiner for the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He is a clinical associate professor of surgery at Georgetown University School of Medicine, where he teaches upcoming practitioners in facial plastic surgery, and he practices at Washington Hospital Center, Georgetown University Hospital and Sibley Memorial Hospital.

Rhinoplasty and revision rhinoplasty account for most of his procedures. Revision surgery addresses an unsatisfactory result from earlier nose surgery or new functional problems. For secondary rhinoplasty he generally uses the open technique, beginning with a small incision at the base of the nose. He prefers general anesthesia for revisions, though minor revisions may be performed under local anesthesia, with or without IV sedation. His work also covers the face and neck, including eyelid surgery, facelifts, neck lifts, and surgical and non-surgical rejuvenation of the aging face and eyes. He performs liposuction, treats trauma patients, and takes part in philanthropic work. He has performed facelifts for more than 20 years and holds that they should generally not be done on patients under 40. Standardized photographs and measured vectors help him judge contour, projection and symmetry, and he selects techniques, including graft type and cartilage support, to fit each patient's anatomy.

Washingtonian Magazine has listed him as a Top Doctor since 2000, and DC Magazine, Castle Connolly and Bethesda Magazine also list him as a Top Doctor. His work has appeared in the Washington Post and Parade Magazine, and his views on facial rejuvenation trends are often sought. According to the site, patients travel from around the globe for his consultations.
