Orit Markowitz, M.D.

Orit Markowitz, M.D., is a dermatologist and skin cancer specialist. She founded OptiSkin Medical and serves as its CEO. She has more than two decades of dermatology experience and serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor at Columbia University. Earlier, she was Director of Pigmented Lesions and Skin Cancer at the Mount Sinai Department of Dermatology and at Brooklyn Veterans Hospital of Downstate University Medical Center. Her clinical focus is noninvasive diagnosis and treatment of skin cancer, and she has conducted research on managing skin cancer with minimal cutting for more than a decade. Her signature approach to skin cancer diagnosis and treatment is called the Markowitz Method. Laser treatments are part of her practice for skin cancer, hair disorders, and inflammatory conditions such as acne. She has served as principal investigator in several U.S. clinical trials on noninvasive skin cancer imaging. Much of her work is teaching. She trains physicians to use her noninvasive skin cancer protocols in their own practices and gives hands-on instruction to dermatology residents, medical students, and other healthcare professionals. She runs a fellowship in non-invasive imaging and early detection at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. Her teaching record includes directing imaging courses for the American Academy of Dermatology. She is president of the International Optical Coherence Tomography Society and chairs the Cutaneous Imaging Group of the American Academy of Dermatology Quality Assurance and Education Committee. On the cosmetic side, her approach uses biostimulation to address facial volume and collagen loss, including loss that follows rapid weight loss. She also practices myomodulation, which aims to refine and lift the face without overfilling it.
