About

Neil Zemmel, MD, FACS, is a board-certified plastic surgeon who started Dermlounge in 2010 and now works there as Medical Director. He reviews every treatment plan at the practice and performs both surgical and minimally invasive aesthetic procedures, using state-of-the-art options. His surgical caseload includes breast augmentation, breast revision and breast reconstruction, including advanced reconstruction techniques, as well as liposuction. He also has experience with reconstructive surgery for severe burns, traumatic injuries and congenital defects. He studied fine arts and science at the College of William and Mary, then completed medical school at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. He spent six years training in plastic and reconstructive surgery at the Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center, serving as Chief Resident of Plastic Surgery in his last year. Allergan picked him, along with four other plastic surgeons, for a preceptorship in Stockholm, Sweden, where he trained under Dr. Charles Randquist in cosmetic breast surgery. He scored 98% on USMLE Part I, and he placed in the 90th and 92nd percentiles on the General Surgery and Plastic Surgery In-Service Exams. After completing training, he practiced privately in Miami Beach, Florida, then moved back to Virginia to open Richmond Aesthetic Surgery and Dermlounge. He has lectured on facial rejuvenation with cosmetic injectables, breast reconstruction and liposuction, and has published in several peer-reviewed medical journals. Media coverage of his plastic surgery work includes VASER liposuction on NBC 6, SmartLipo on Fox 29, and a New York Times article about the Zwivel online tool. He considers open, honest communication and a clear understanding of each patient's needs and goals essential to a good treatment experience. He has been voted a Top Doc and named in the Best of Richmond awards several years in a row. He is known for his skill in aesthetic enhancement and his compassionate bedside manner. He is a member of The Aesthetic Society, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the Medical Society of Virginia.
