Laura Mendez

Laura Mendez is a nurse practitioner who founded Optimal Health of Houston about nine years ago. Her credentials include APRN, WHNP and IFMCP, and the practice centers on gynecology and functional medicine for women.

She worked as a registered nurse in emergency, intensive care, labor and delivery and psychiatry settings. She completed the nurse practitioner program at the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas in 1993 and moved to the Houston area in 1995. She passed the Institute for Functional Medicine certification exam in November 2013 and has trained with many experts in functional medicine. She completed additional training in aesthetic procedures before she began performing them in 2000. She is one of a very small group of certified Functional Medicine practitioners worldwide.

Her focus includes bio-identical hormone therapy and pharmaceutical grade supplements chosen to balance body systems according to each patient's individual biochemistry. She also offers Botox, dermal fillers and Sculptra, along with pharmaceutical grade skin care and aesthetic laser procedures. She takes new appointments primarily by patient referral.
