Laura Collins

Laura Collins is the nurse practitioner who provides care at The Derm NP. She began her dermatology career in 2005 at a large multi-specialty medical group and has over 17 years of dermatology experience. Before that, she worked as a registered nurse for four years on a medical/surgical and orthopedics unit.

She earned a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Northern Illinois University in 2000, then completed the Adult Nurse Practitioner program there and earned a master's degree in 2004. She completed dermatology internships during graduate school and continues her dermatology education through continuing education and clinical work. She holds the Dermatology Certified Nurse Practitioner (DCNP) credential, having passed the initial exam in March 2008 through the Dermatology Nursing Certification Board; DCNP credentials are renewed every three years through dermatology-specific contact hours. She also holds the Advanced Certified Telemedicine/Telehealth Professional (ACTTP) title.

She has precepted nurse practitioner, physician assistant and medical students, and has spoken for the Illinois Society for Advanced Practice Nurses as well as at community hospitals and education events. She has taken part in SPOT me Skin Cancer Screening Programs. Her professional memberships include the Illinois Society for Advanced Practice Nurses, the Dermatology Nurses Association, the NP Society, the Society for Dermatology Physician Assistants and Diversity in Dermatology.
