Kevin Maple began working in Bayport, New York, at age 17. He finished cosmetology school while still in high school and holds a New York State cosmetologist license. Later he took a job in Southampton, and in January 1987 he opened The Kevin Maple Salon on Job's Lane, where he serves as founder and owner. Each Tuesday he is also available in New York City, at the Alessandro Mangerini Salon on Madison Avenue.
