Kes

Kes works as a stylist at Textures By Nefertiti. Self-taught in braiding, she picked up techniques from relatives, including braiding with extensions, sew-ins and two-strand twist extensions. Loc maintenance came next, and she built that skill alongside braiding and styling natural hair during her time at Wayne State University, the period in which she first crossed paths with Nefertiti at the salon. Since then she has taken on clients under Nefertiti's guidance and mentorship. A Cranbrook Academy of Art graduate, Kes creates visual art built around braiding, presented through braiding performances and exhibitions in Paris, Dakar and at MOCAD. Editorial braiding campaigns for The Lip Bar, Coup De'tat and Eugenie also form part of her portfolio. Her work appears on Instagram under @kesswa_ and @kesswa.studio.
