About
Julie Zapata founded Higher Physical Therapy and is a New York State licensed physical therapist with 22 years in practice, having started in 2000. She has worked in home, hospital and private practice settings, and sees children and adults with simple or complex problems. Chronic pain is one of her specialties. She earned a Master of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, now Rutgers University, in 2000. She is rehab-certified as an instructor through Stott Pilates for Rehabilitation, has trained in Pilates, and has hands-on training with the Institute of Physical Art, the Postural Restoration Institute and the John Barnes PT Myofascial Release Institute. She trains extensively in myofascial release and functional manual therapy, and regularly pursues advanced training nationwide. Sessions are one-on-one, and she designs each program around hands-on manual therapy and prescribed exercise, aiming to restore function and help each patient hit personal goals. Myofascial release works on connective tissue, while functional manual therapy is the more active of the two. She works in a personal, holistic way.
