About
Joyce C. Chen, MD, MPH, FACS, is a board certified plastic surgeon practicing at Pacific Plastic Surgery Institute in Irvine. Following a general surgery residency at Oregon Health and Science University, she moved into plastic and reconstructive training at Lahey Clinic, then completed a craniofacial and pediatric plastic surgery fellowship at Children's Hospital Los Angeles. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences and a certificate in the Children and Society Curriculum from Stanford University, an MD from Duke University School of Medicine, and an MPH from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, where she also earned a Certificate in Global Health in August 2015. Her international work includes the 2009-2010 Jerome P. Webster Fellowship with ReSurge International, formerly Interplast, during which she worked as a surgeon and educator in more than ten countries. In 2009-10 she also completed mini-fellowships at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan and Hopital Necker-Enfants Malades in Paris, and she was selected as a Global Health Scholar at Johns Hopkins University for 2012-2013. The American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons gave her its best research paper award in October 2008. From 2022 to 2024 she chaired the Department of Plastic Surgery at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Orange County, and she holds academic clinical appointments as Clinical Instructor and Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery. Her specialties are pediatric and craniofacial plastic surgery, body contouring, facial surgery and breast surgery. She has extensive experience with awake liposuction performed under local anesthesia alone, and she has performed more than 700 liposuction procedures. She also treats male patients, aiming to preserve masculine features and avoid an overdone result. Patients who want body contouring, facial rejuvenation, breast work or reconstruction are welcome.
