About
Joi Gayles is the owner of Studio Joi and works there as its Master Hair Therapist. She began her career in beauty in 1983 at Lytle's Redwood Empire Beauty College, where she studied with Ed and Kathy Lytle, and after earning an instructor's license she taught at the college for many years.
She later worked as an educator and platform artist for KMS, teaching hair color and styling techniques across the United States. In 1988 she co-founded Sausalito Signatures with two partners and became its sole owner for 26 years.
Her work centers on cutting and caring for curly, textured and natural hair, on color including custom shades and grey transitions, and on hair therapy using herbal infusions, aromatherapy and natural remedies. She has studied the chemicals used in hair care along with aromatherapy and herbs, and she works with a multicultural clientele.
