John Thoppil, MD

John Thoppil, MD, founded River Place OB/GYN and leads the practice as its lead physician. His clinical work centers on obstetrics and gynecology with attention to women's health, and he is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He serves as Department Chair of OB/GYN at St. David's North Austin Medical Center and is a past president of the Texas Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Transform Austin Med Spa is led by him. Before returning to Texas in 2008, he served as a physician in the United States Air Force. He earned a B.S. in Biochemistry from Texas A&M University, graduating magna cum laude, and completed medical training at Baylor College of Medicine, where he was named Ob/Gyn Student of the Year. He completed residency at Wilford Hall Medical Center at Lackland AFB, receiving academic awards each year. He is a nationally recognized expert in women's health, was the first physician in Texas to perform in-office uterine removal using the MYOSURE technique, and was the first to offer the SONATA procedure in-office for fibroids. His NTSV rate was 11% in 2022, among the lowest cesarean section rates in the state. He has been listed as an Austin Monthly Top Doctor since 2015 and a Texas Monthly Super Doctor since 2019. He has been featured in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, CBS National News, Dallas Morning News and Texas Monthly.
