About
John Kang is a board certified facial plastic surgeon and physician who holds MD and F.A.C.S. credentials and practices at Dr. John Kang's Facial Plastic Clinic. He received a BA in biology from Columbia College in 1984 and an MD with distinction in research from Mount Sinai School of Medicine in 1988. After a general surgery internship at Beth Israel Medical Center in 1993, he trained in otolaryngology, face, head and neck surgery at SUNY Buffalo and completed a facial plastic and reconstructive surgery fellowship at Dyer Facial Plastic Center, Emory University, in 1994. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Facial Plastics and Reconstructive Surgery and of the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.
He joined New York Ear, Head and Neck Surgical Associates in 1995, where his early practice centered on oncologic and reconstructive surgery. Since 1997, his focus has been cosmetic and plastic surgery of the face and neck, with particular attention to the needs of Asian-American patients. His named specialties are Asian double eyelid surgery and Asian rhinoplasty.
His filler treatments address mid-face volume, lower eyelids, the jawline and the cheeks. He also offers lip enhancement using hyaluronic acid fillers and chin and jaw enhancement. For patients with a wide jaw angle, he uses Botox at the jaw's chewing muscle.
He has offered medical-grade facials for about 20 years, has used the Sciton 1319 laser for about 15 years, and has used Fraxel technology on acne scars for nearly 15 years. Before acne treatment, he recommends an initial diagnostic workup with a dermatologist. He sets laser power for each patient to limit downtime and redness, and when treating acne scars and deep wrinkles he raises laser energy gradually across sessions. Other non-surgical options he uses include Botox, Juvederm, Radiesse, Thermage and Fraxel. He takes all before-and-after patient photos himself to help analyze facial features and proportions.
