Joan

Joan is the medical director of Álainn Medical Aesthetics, where she also works as a nurse practitioner holding the ANP-BC credential. She founded the practice in 2021, the same year she entered the medical aesthetics field. Her nursing career started in the 1990s on the medical and surgery floor at New England Deaconess Hospital, which handled hematology and oncology patients, giving her experience with blood disorders, cancers and chemotherapy. She then moved into research at the Clinical Research Center of the BU School of Medicine, where she provided care and collected data for studies funded by the National Institutes of Health. Next, at the Community Research Initiative, she worked on drug trials and later became a lead researcher on symptom management, treatment protocols and reducing side effects. She then practiced as a nurse practitioner at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, where her work covered oncology, hematology and rare diseases. During the COVID pandemic she ran Harvard University's COVID response program, and she served as a clinical lead for large vaccination teams during the FEMA response at Fenway Park and the Hynes Convention Center. Her training includes a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Villanova and a master's degree completed while she worked at the Community Research Initiative.
