About
Jeffrey De Wester is Chief Medical Officer of the practice and the creator of Health Optimization Therapy (H.O.T.). He received his medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine in 1986 and completed a family practice residency at St. Francis Hospital Center in Beech Grove from 1986 to 1989. He began practicing medicine in 1987 and has been board certified by the American Board of Family Practice since 1989, with recertifications in 1996 and 2003. He has held an Indiana medical license since 1987.
Since finishing training, he has worked as a clinician, researcher, author, lecturer and consultant. From 1989 to 2012 he held hospital appointments at St. Francis Hospital Center and Community South Hospital in Indianapolis, and he taught in the St. Francis family practice residency. He was an adjunct clinical professor in the Butler University Physician Assistant Program from 1997 to 2002 and served as editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Psychiatry in the Community in 2002 and 2003. Since 2001 he has served as medical and psychiatric director and consultant for The Family Bonding and Attachment Center.
His research has focused on sex hormone treatment for more than 30 years. He cofounded the American Health Education Foundation, where he developed and tested a large-scale, case-based medical education model. He also founded a pharmaceutical think-tank that created the Franco-De Wester Drug Development Equation. He has proposed hypotheses linking allergic rhinitis and sleep apnea to health outcomes, and he uses models of emotional expression and anxiety to explain these subjects to patients. He has lectured at national and international conferences for more than 25 years and has written more than a dozen scientific publications. His earlier consulting clients included Pfizer, Bristol Myers Squibb, Forest and Wyeth-Ayerst, and he currently consults with Eiger Biopharmaceuticals on lonafarnib.
