Jana McKenzie, MD

Jana McKenzie, MD, owns and founded Coastal Concierge Internal Medicine and is a board-certified internist. She earned her medical degree at the University of Cincinnati College and completed her internal medicine residency at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center in Ohio, finishing in 1998. She then moved to Florida for her first job, starting in the small town of Crystal River. Her training also includes time at the University of Alabama Medical Center. She holds a bachelor's degree in pre-med and science with a psychology major from the University of Michigan, where she took part in research on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. She is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha, the national medical honor society. She was in the top 5 percent of her class at the University of Michigan. Across 27 years in clinical practice, she has managed difficult, serious and chronic illness. Her work covers diabetes types I, II and 1.5; heart conditions such as heart failure, hypertension, arrhythmias and vascular disease; lung conditions including COPD, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary hypertension and asthma; and migraine, thyroid disease, arthritis, liver disease and obesity. She also treats autoimmune conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus and inflammatory bowel disease, along with depression, anxiety, ADD and ADHD. Skin conditions, including rashes, shingles and skin cancer, are part of her practice, as are in-office skin procedures and non-surgical injectable cosmetic treatments. She provides stem cell therapy, weight loss injections with semaglutide and tirzepatide, and pain-relieving injections for musculoskeletal pain. She has used tirzepatide or an equivalent drug for more than 15 years. Her patient panel is kept small, which leaves room for unhurried visits, answers to questions and prompt visits when someone is sick. She welcomes patients with complex or hard-to-diagnose conditions and coordinates care with specialists, advocating for patients in hospitals and emergency rooms. She aims to keep oral medications to a minimum, since these can affect overall health or cause brain fog.
