Jamell McDowell

Jamell McDowell is a designer and the creative director of Purple Door Salon, a role held since joining the salon as creative director in 2003. Oversees website design, staff photo shoots and the salon's decor and ambience. Has spent 36 years in the beauty business.

Trained at and graduated from Gwynnis Mosby Makeup Academy. Continuing education includes membership in Hair Fashion Group and Sassoon Academy. Affiliations include Rolling Out Magazine, Couture, the IBS Show, the Lisa Nicole Collection and the 100 Black Women Mecca Chapter.

Credited with hair, makeup and wardrobe styling on several Purple Door shoots and with the salon's interior design. Business advice is offered to young and aspiring hairstylists, makeup artists and other beauty professionals, encouraging them toward financial independence and ownership through self-discipline and consistent professional practice, with the goal of building industry leaders.
