J. Brian Boyd

Dr. Boyd is a board-certified plastic surgeon who runs his own practice in Rolling Hills Estates. He earned an MD from Liverpool University, graduating with distinction from Liverpool Medical School at age 23. His surgical training covered general surgery, leading to Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in London, with advanced study in embryology, a plastic surgery residency at the University of Toronto, and a craniofacial surgery fellowship and a microsurgery fellowship at Royal Melbourne Hospital in Australia. Earlier posts include a faculty appointment at Toronto General Hospital and Chairman of Plastic Surgery at Cleveland Clinic Florida. He was also Chief of Plastic Surgery at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, a post he no longer holds. His academic appointment at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA is in surgery, and he is a Distinguished Professor there. He has published more than 120 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, written three books, and joined more than 15 national and international medical societies, and he has worked as an editor and reviewer for plastic surgery journals. His credentials are MD, FRCS, FRCSC, FACS and FRSM. His clinical focus includes breast reconstruction, including muscle-sparing free flap reconstruction, and aesthetic plastic surgery. He works on facial and reconstructive procedures using microsurgical techniques, and he performs enhancing nipple projection alone, alongside other surgery, or as a maintenance treatment. He carries out the reconstruction stage of Mohs surgery at the practice on the same day as the excision, and he plans skin cancer removals so scars fall in the least visible location. He uses sentinel node biopsy to check whether melanoma has reached nearby lymph nodes. In consultations he lays out options and realistic expectations at an unhurried pace. He does not combine an upper eyelid lift with a brow lift in the same operation, though he sometimes recommends upper eyelid surgery under local anesthesia three months later if results need refinement. He uses Restylane to treat thinning skin on the hands, and he stocks only the dermal fillers he considers the safest and most effective.
