About
J. Brian Boyd, MD, is a board-certified plastic surgeon based in Palos Verdes, seeing patients from Torrance, the Beach Cities, the South Bay and Los Angeles. His credentials are MD, FRCS, FRCSC, FACS and FRSM. He holds a professorship in surgery at UCLA's David Geffen School of Medicine and heads plastic surgery at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. Earlier posts include a faculty role at Toronto General Hospital and serving as Chairman of Plastic Surgery at Cleveland Clinic Florida.
His training started at Liverpool Medical School, where he graduated with distinction at 23. He then trained in general surgery and completed a plastic surgery residency at the University of Toronto. A craniofacial surgery fellowship and a microsurgery fellowship at Royal Melbourne Hospital in Australia followed, and he also completed advanced study in embryology. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in London.
His clinical focus is breast reconstruction and aesthetic plastic surgery, including muscle-sparing free flap breast reconstruction, with advanced work in facial and reconstructive techniques. He has more than 25 years of microsurgical experience. He has published more than 120 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, contributed to Jackson's Local Flaps in Head and Neck Reconstruction and Management of Facial Lines and Wrinkles, and co-authored Operative Microsurgery with Neil F. Jones. He has also served as an editor and reviewer for plastic surgery journals and belongs to more than 15 national and international medical societies.
