About
Hayes B. Gladstone, MD, is a dermatologic surgeon who founded Gladstone Clinic. He holds board certification in both dermatology and Mohs micrographic surgery and has worked in the Bay Area since 2000. His clinical focus covers Mohs surgery and skin cancer reconstruction, along with cosmetic and reconstructive work such as facelifts, eye lifts, liposuction, laser skin rejuvenation and hair transplants. The practice describes him as a nationally recognized expert in cosmetic dermatologic surgery and in Mohs surgery and reconstruction.
His medical education began with an MD from the University of Rochester, followed by a surgical internship at the University of California, San Francisco, where he also held a research fellowship studying growth factors in wound healing. He then trained in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery and in dermatology at the University of Washington, where an NIH fellowship centered on virtual reality in dermatologic surgery. A UCLA-affiliated fellowship in Mohs, reconstructive and cosmetic surgery, under Ronald L. Moy, MD, came next. Before medicine, he earned a combined bachelor's and master's degree from Tufts University and the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.
He is a former director of the Division of Dermatologic Surgery at Stanford University, where he was also an associate professor in dermatology and in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery. He has held a clinical instructor appointment at the UCLA School of Medicine. He has lectured internationally, edited educational videos for the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and chaired that society's 2015 Annual Meeting. He is also a past director of the Advanced Cosmetic Surgery Course at the American Academy of Dermatology. He has about 100 publications, including 30 book chapters, and has been asked to serve as an expert witness in dermatologic surgery malpractice cases. He co-founded the Blade and Light Society in 2003 and serves as president of Blade and Light International. Past leadership roles include president of the San Francisco Dermatology Society and of the Pacific Dermatology Association. According to the practice, he was among the first to develop the facelift performed under local anesthesia.
