About
Dr. William Yates, MD FACS founded the practice, where he works as the surgeon. Hair restoration has been his only focus for more than a decade, during which he has carried out thousands of procedures. He was the first surgeon in Chicago and across the Midwest to perform FUE hair transplants. Training started with a B.A. in Medical Science from Northwestern University (1983), then an MD from Northwestern's Six-Year Honors Program in Medical Education (1985). He did a surgical internship at Howard University Hospital in 1986 and a general surgery residency there in 1990, followed by a critical care and trauma fellowship at the University of Maryland Hospital in 1991. He holds board certification in general surgery and in trauma and critical care from the American Board of Surgery. He also holds Fellow status with the American College of Surgeons and belongs to the American Medical Society. He has been named a medical board examiner for the American Board of Surgery, and he also serves as a board member and examiner. He holds a U.S. medical-device patent covering hair restoration technology, and he has written medical publications and articles. His practice centers on minimally invasive FUE, carried out with both manual and robotic systems; he does not perform strip or FUT procedures. He harvests follicular units one at a time through micro-incisions and personally punches out each graft, which is kept in Hypothermosol and ATPv solutions until transplant. Beyond the scalp, he restores beards, mustaches, goatees and eyebrows. For patients low on scalp donor hair, he uses body hair from the beard, chest or back. Hair-sparing FUE is offered to people who want to keep their hair longer. He also handles recovery and repair for patients with several visible scars or earlier plug procedures, and performs scalp micropigmentation. He is a Restoration Robotics physician. He trains other physicians in FUE locally and internationally, and patients travel to him from around the country and abroad. He welcomes all clients who would benefit from hair restoration, with a particular focus on African American patients, people with textured hair and gender-affirming patients.
