About
Dr. Vinay Rawlani founded Northwestern Hair Restoration, a practice focused on hair loss and hair restoration, and works there as a hair loss physician and hair transplant surgeon. He began practicing in Chicago in 2009. His training is in plastic surgery and hair restoration at Northwestern University, where he served as Chief Resident, and at the University of Chicago, and he also trained in dermatology. He is board-certified in plastic surgery and in hair restoration.
He has served as past president of the International Hair Institute and is a Louise E. Fazen Endowed Scholar at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He holds a patent and a trademark and is a two-time world record holder for hair transplantation. He developed Micro PUE, a refinement of FUE that extracts the full pilosebaceous unit and uses vibration to help protect follicles. He also introduced ACS, a non-surgical treatment adapted from orthopedic surgery, and co-developed Adaptive Trichopigmentation with Magic Ink SMP for female hair loss. He built Northwestern Access, the at-home pathway for cases managed remotely, and developed the Clarendon Hills collaboration that puts medical workup alongside hair restoration consultation.
His hairline work weighs proportion, angle and how hair will change over time. He performs Micro PUE and no-shave transplants and treats both men and women. For women, he takes a more conservative view on transplant candidacy. Evaluations include a detailed history, exam and diagnostic testing, and the options he presents can include waiting or no treatment. Plans are built around donor capacity, the pattern of loss and medical contributors. He works with compounding pharmacies to formulate at-home treatments for each patient, and he monitors progress and adjusts sessions as needed. He sees patients in person at the Clarendon Hills clinic.
