About
Dr. Rainier Guiang, MD, directs the regenerative medicine program at University Pain Consultants, where he also serves as supervising physician for regenerative medicine at the clinic. He co-founded the practice in 2007 and treats patients from the Inland Empire and wider Southern California, many of whom have found little lasting relief from conventional pain care.
He began his career in internal medicine. He completed a bachelor's degree in biological sciences at UCLA in 1995 and an MD at the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine in 1999. From 1999 to 2001 he trained in an internal medicine residency at Creighton University and Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix. He then shifted to anesthesiology with a focus on chronic pain, completing an anesthesiology residency at Case Western Reserve and University Hospitals Cleveland from 2001 to 2004 and a pain medicine fellowship there from 2004 to 2005.
He has been board-certified in anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology since 2004 and in pain medicine since 2005, and he holds an active California medical license. His clinical work centers on platelet-rich plasma and platelet-rich fibrin therapy, IV ketamine infusions, and low dose naltrexone. He evaluates every IV lidocaine candidate in person and gives the clinic's therapeutic botulinum toxin injections himself. He also helps teach medical students and residents. His approach aims to limit long-term opioid dependence, and he explains likely benefits to patients using evidence-based information.
