About
Dr. Somogyi is double board-certified in ophthalmology and facial plastic surgery. She holds a Clinical Assistant Professor appointment in the Department of Ophthalmology at Dell Medical School at UT Austin, serves as Program Site Director at TOC Eye and Face, and sits in a Faculty Senate role at Dell Medical School. She works alongside Dr. Amato, and between them they have more than 17 years of oculoplastic surgery experience. She is a diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology and a fellow of both the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the American Board of Facial Cosmetic Surgery, as well as the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery. Her credentials include MD and FACS. Her education began with a B.A. in Arts & Letters, with a preprofessional psychology focus, from the University of Notre Dame. She then earned an M.D. with honors in research from Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine, completed a transitional-year internship at Resurrection Presence Health, and finished an ophthalmology residency at Loyola University Medical Center, where she was elected chief resident. A fellowship in oculofacial, reconstructive and orbital plastic surgery at TOC Eye and Face, accredited by ASOPRS, followed, where she performed thousands of procedures. She then completed a facial cosmetic surgery fellowship accredited by AACS. Her practice covers oculofacial, orbital and reconstructive plastic surgery, along with facial cosmetic work. Her care is individualized and patient-centered, built on advanced surgical techniques, and her goal is to treat each patient the way she would a member of her own family. She has trained students in orbital and reconstructive eyelid surgery. She went with the About Face foundation to Vietnam, where she carried out close to 70 procedures in a single week addressing congenital facial defects. She has published peer-reviewed articles and book chapters and has presented research at national meetings. She holds staff privileges at Ascension Medical Center, Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas and St. David's Medical Center. During residency she acted as an ophthalmology advocacy ambassador for Illinois to Congress. She has been named a Texas Rising Star and an Austin Top Doctor since 2019, has won Best Presentation awards at several meetings, and holds the Cosmetic Surgery Foundation Grant Award.
