Dr. John F. Shega

Dr. Shega is medical director of Academic & Aesthetic Dermatology Consultants in San Diego, where he is a board-certified dermatologist. Before dermatology he practiced emergency medicine for more than 14 years, and that background informs the practice's same-day appointments. He holds a bachelor's degree and completed four years of medical school. He trained at Balboa Hospital in San Diego, where his work covered complexion, skin, hair and nail conditions, and at St. John's Hospital for Diseases of the Skin in London. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery. His main areas are laser surgery, skin diseases caused by the environment or work, and cosmetic surgery. He is trained in a range of surgical techniques, including a method for complete removal of skin cancer with cosmetic reconstruction. He also diagnoses, treats and works to prevent hand and foot conditions such as warts, and he may work with a patient's other health care providers for comprehensive care of the hands and feet. He stays up to date in all fields of medicine, dermatology included.
