About
Dr. Jane Semel practices ophthalmology in El Segundo and has board certification in the specialty. Her clinical focus is treating and preventing eye disease, and she is licensed to practice in California. She serves as the official ophthalmologist of the Los Angeles Kings. She is also a published author. She began her education with an undergraduate degree in biochemistry from Claremont Men's College, then earned a graduate degree at the University of Southern California. Her postgraduate medical training included an internship in internal medicine at USC/LAC Medical Center, an ophthalmology residency at White Memorial Medical Center in Los Angeles, and a fellowship in managing retinovitreal conditions at that same hospital. Across thousands of procedures she has done LASIK, small-incision cataract surgery with lens implants, refractive cataract surgery, and glaucoma and eyelid treatment. She was an early adopter in Los Angeles of the Light Adjustable Lens and of laser-assisted cataract techniques. She regularly takes part in courses, lectures and international meetings on refractive surgery, laser vision correction and small-incision cataract surgery. She is a member of several professional societies, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. Patients travel to her from El Segundo, Manhattan Beach and abroad, including Japan, China, France, Germany and Mexico.
