Dr. James Rough

Dr. James Rough is a board-certified plastic surgeon at James Rough, M.D. Plastic Surgery in Tucson. He is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and works in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the body and face. He earned a bachelor's degree in microbiology from Northern Arizona University with honors and a medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia. He completed a five-year general surgery residency at the University of Arizona, a three-year plastic surgery residency at UCLA, and a one-year microsurgery fellowship at UCLA. He is a clinical assistant professor at the University of Arizona and the Southern Arizona VA, where he teaches residents and medical students. He has published research on topics including traumatic injury and breast reduction, and he received the PRS Best Breast Paper Award in 2020. His body contouring training includes work with Dr. Alfredo Hoyos in Colombia, including training to bring VASER to his practice. He performs tummy tucks, including revision tummy tucks, and aesthetic and implant-based breast surgery. He customizes each treatment to the individual and guides patients through their options. Before recommending tummy tuck surgery, he reviews weight history, pregnancy history, prior abdominal surgery and recovery logistics. Breast augmentation is planned around individual proportions rather than a standard cup size or implant, and implant type, size, placement and incision options are reviewed in consultation.
