Dr. Huachen Wei (魏华臣)

Dr. Huachen Wei founded the practice and works as a dermatologist with MD and PhD degrees. Alongside the clinic, the work includes a tenured full professorship of dermatology at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, directing a dermatology research laboratory, and heading the outpatient dermatology department at Queens Hospital Center. Thirty years of dermatology treatment experience stand behind the medical side of the practice. Training began with a medical degree from Shandong Medical College in 1982, followed by a master's degree in public health from Beijing Medical University in 1985. After moving to the United States in 1987 for further study, a PhD in biochemistry and environmental oncology was completed at NYU Medical Center in 1992, and an internal medicine and dermatology residency at Mount Sinai Hospital in 2000. Earlier academic posts included a brief assistant professorship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, then a move to Mount Sinai School of Medicine as associate professor and director of dermatology research in 1995, and a tenured professorship of dermatology at Mount Sinai from 2002. Research has centered on environmental factors and ultraviolet light in skin cancer and skin immunity, as well as oxidative free radical DNA damage in skin aging and chemoprevention with natural compounds. The body of work includes over 200 peer-reviewed papers and more than 30 research grants as principal investigator, five of them NIH R01 grants. The American Dermatology Association gave Dr. Huachen Wei its Distinguished Dermatologist award in 1998, Dr. Huachen Wei was named one of the top dermatology physicians in the nation for over ten years, and the Ministry of Education recognized Dr. Huachen Wei as an overseas Yangtze River Scholar in dermatology.
